One in 939 Venezuelans has been infected with COVID-19

With the official figure of 30,369 accumulated cases until August 13, one in every 939 Venezuelans have been confirmed for the new coronavirus COVID-19 in the national territory. This shows a rate of 1,064.7 infections per million inhabitants.

This considering a population of 28.5 million people, as found in the National Survey of Living Conditions 2019-2020 and considering that according to the United Nations Regional Response Platform it reveals that 5,180,615 Venezuelans have migrated by August 5, 2020.

The rate is not the lowest in South America, as it is surpassed by Guyana and Uruguay. The first country accumulates only 631 cases in a population of 787 thousand inhabitants, which gives a rate of 802 cases per million. This equates to one case for 1,247 people.

For its part, Uruguay reports for the same August 13 a total of 1,409 cases in a population of 3.5 million people. So it has a rate of 405 cases per million inhabitants, which is equal to one case for every 2,466 people.

Hurry, the highest

Nine entities of the country have a higher rate than the national average, being led by the Apure state. In the Llanera entity there are, until August 13, a total of 2,543 cases in a population of about 485 thousand people. This is equivalent to 5,011 cases per million or one for every 200 inhabitants.

They are followed by Vargas (4,107.8 cases per million), Capital District (3,742.77), Miranda Island Territory – Los Roques (1,936.11 517), Miranda (1,456.66), Táchira (1,416.51), Sucre (1,369 , 21), Zulia (1,112.85) and Bolívar (1,078.79), according to the populations calculated by the National Institute of Statistics for 2015 when there were about 28.5 million people in the country.

In the rest of the country the rates are lower. In the following interactive graph you can see the rate of each entity and the proportional equivalent in the population.

More than Italy

Saving the differences of comparing Apure, which is a region, with other countries in other continents, it is useful to find what the rate of incidence or contagion of this plains entity on the border with Colombia looks like.

With a rate of 5,011 cases per million, the incidence of Apure would be higher than that of Honduras, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and even Italy, than registering a rate of 4,182 cases per million.

But Apure also has a higher rate than neighboring Suriname with 587 thousand people.

It is worth noting that of the 30,368 cases, only 25% are imported and 75% are Community.

A big change with respect to July 13, a month earlier, when imports were 48.4% of cases or June 13 when they were 80% of cases.

Likewise, the Apure state went on those same dates from having 777 cases to 1,430 and finally 2,543, the increase in cases coinciding with a greater number of local or community cases.
