One cross comes in, the other does not: Vitesse remains a co-leader

For the time being, Vitesse will continue to lead the Eredivisie dance together with Ajax. The team from Arnhem initially made little impression against Willem II, but managed to bend a backlog and come back next to Ajax in the lead.

Vitesse coach Thomas Letsch again could not rely on Oussama Tannane, also had to cross out the name of left back Maxi Wittek and saw his team slowly get started in Tilburg. Goalkeeper Remko Pasveer was put to work by Derrick Köhn and Pol Llonch and had to fish after half an hour. Mike Trésor revived an attack that was initially repulsed, Ché Nunnely surprised the entire Vitesse defense at the first post: 1-0.

In the next half hour, some half-odds could be noted on both sides. Vitesse’s equalizer therefore came out of nowhere. Loïs Openda brought the ball from the right in front of the goal and saw it sail over Jorn Brondeel – the replacement of first choice Robbin Ruiter -: 1-1. The guests from Arnhem pressed on and almost immediately took the lead: Armando Broja took a half-high cross from Millian Manhoef on the slipper and sent the ball cleverly towards the short corner.

Willem II had to start and smelled the equalizer, but was not lucky that Vitesse had. Köhn haphazardly passed the ball from the left, almost scored, but hit the bar. In the counterattack it was hit: substitute Patrick Vroegh was able to build from the second line and took the decisive 1-3 with a wonderful wedge kick.

The Arnhemmers are on eighteen points after seven games and only have to tolerate Ajax on goal difference. Before the international period starts, Vitesse still plays at home against FC Emmen. Willem II awaits an away game against neighbor PSV.
