Recently, there has been increased pressure of migrants on the Latvian border: on December 13, the State Border Guard prevented 56 people from attempting to cross the border illegally, on December 14 – 83, on December 15 – 69, on December 16 – 60, on December 17 – 52, 18 .december – 70, December 19 – 45, December 20 – 51, but December 21 – 58 attempts.

Before that, an average of 20 to 30 immigrants tried to cross the border every day.

Since 10 August, when a state of emergency was declared at the border, a total of 3,481 people have been deterred from crossing the state border illegally.

There are no detainees for illegal crossing of the state border in the past day.

Since the introduction of the state of emergency, 93 people have not been prevented from crossing the border on humanitarian grounds, and a total of 445 third-country nationals have been detained illegally this year.

Taking into account the increased pressure of illegal immigration, the Latvian government has declared a state of emergency in Ludza, Krāslava and Augšdaugava counties, as well as in Daugavpils. In the summer, the government announced it from August 11 to November 10, but later extended it to February 10.

As part of an extensive hybrid attack on the regime of Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko, attempts have been made since this spring to send thousands of illegal immigrants from Belarus to Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, most of whom have arrived in Belarus as tourists from Iraq.
