The first construction works of the Rail Baltica Riga Central Junction will take place in the square between the Riga Central Railway Station and the building of the Ministry of Transport, and along the railway line between Maskavas and Lāčplēša Streets. The delimitation and arrangement of the construction site, as well as the first works started on November 17.

It is envisaged that a continuous and safe traffic organization will be provided for traffic participants and pedestrians in the vicinity of the Riga Central Railway Station during the entire period of execution of the works.

Due to the state of emergency declared in the country and the risks of Covid-19 spread, the visit to the construction site on November 23 will take place in a very narrow circle. After the visit, the media will be provided with photo and video material, as well as information about the start of construction works.

Belgian builder Besix Group, Latvian ReRe Būve and Italian Rizzani de Eccher have joined the general partnership “BeReRix” with the aim to implement the design and reconstruction of the Riga Central Railway Station complex, a new European gauge track and railway bridge over the Daugava, embankment and adjacent infrastructure design and construction.

As part of “BeReRix”, architectural solutions are developed by the Italian “Crew” together with the Latvian “Arhis arhitekti”. Building construction solutions are provided by Belgian companies “Greisch”, “TUC Rail”, Italian “DEAL” and Latvian companies “Celuprojekts” and “BICP”. Track solutions are prepared by Belgian experts from TUC Rail in cooperation with Konstruktionsgruppe Bauen Latvija. The engineering networks of the building are developed by “Belam-Riga”. The design team also includes local design and engineering network experts – “Celuprojekts”, “Citrus Solutions”, “O3FM”, “Sprinkleru serviss”, “Aqua-Brambis”, “Elsana”, “Karlis”, Arhis MEP “.

Since January this year, BeReRix has also been working with the supervisory engineering team Egis-Deutche Bahn, consisting of EGIS RAIL SA, DB Engineering & Consulting GMbH and EGIS Batiments International. This cooperation significantly increases the team’s capacity in the implementation of such an important and iconic project for Riga.

It has already been reported that the Rail Baltica project envisages the creation of a European standard gauge railway line from Tallinn to the Lithuanian-Polish border, so that the Baltic States could be further connected to other European countries by rail. In the Baltic States, it is planned to build a new 870-kilometer-long European gauge railway line (1,435 millimeters) with a maximum train speed of 240 kilometers per hour.

The cost of Rail Baltica is expected to reach 5.8 billion euros, including the branch decided to be built between Kaunas and Vilnius. Part of the costs will be covered by European Union funds. It is planned that the Rail Baltica railway line will be ready for traffic in 2026.
