“We became aware of two cases in the UK with the omicron variant. These two cases are related and have a connection with travel to South Africa. These people self-isolate in their families while further testing and seeking contacts is carried out,” the minister wrote.

“As a precautionary measure, we are conducting additional targeted testing in the affected areas – Nottingham and Chelmsford – and sequencing any positive cases. This is a rapidly evolving situation and we are taking decisive steps to protect public health,” added Javid.
The minister also stressed that the British Ministry of Health will add four countries to the “red list” for travelers from November 28.
