“More fear than harm” we whisper at the Simone Veil hospital center. Thursday evening, the emergency services of the Beauvais hospital had to be evacuated following the start of a fire. The origin? A heavily alcoholic man set fire to the mattress on which he had just been transported. No injuries are to be deplored. As for the individual responsible for the incident, he ended the night in a drunken cell before being taken into custody this Friday morning.
Toxicological analyzes are in progress
It was around 9:30 p.m. when the man was taken to hospital due to the very advanced state of intoxication in which he was found in the streets of Beauvais. “We are still awaiting toxicological results,” says one side of the Beauvais police station, where one potentially suspects the presence of drugs in his body. Very agitated, the individual – who does not speak French and whose identity was still not known at the end of the morning – had to be tied to his stretcher during his admission to the emergency room.
Fortunately, firefighters were present
Despite everything, the man manages to set his mattress on fire using a lighter he had in his possession. Fortunately, the firefighters present managed to extinguish the fire very quickly. But as a precaution, medical staff and patients are evacuated from the emergency room and transported to adjoining buildings while waiting to be able to return to the service at around 4:30 am. “But there was no interruption of care”, specifies the management of the hospital, which congratulated the teams of the Emergency Reception Service and the security agents “for their composure and their responsiveness”.
