It is a speed that a normal person can hardly imagine. 841 km / h! At this insane pace, Jessi Combs raced across the desert sand. An adventure that the racing driver paid for with her life.

The trip for the history books happened in August 2019. With a rocket vehicle, Combs, who was also known to a large audience as a TV moderaton of the “Mythbusters” series, meticulously prepared for the world record hunt in the Alvord Desert in the US state of Oregon.

During the decisive journey, however, it strikes an object in the desert sand, suffers a defect on the front wheel and crashes at a speed at which even guardian angels are powerless.

After the crash there was even talk of 885 km / h. Now, however, “Guinness Book of Records” has officially named Combs the fastest woman in the world. With her last trip she reaches 841 km / h and breaks a 40 year old record. In 1976 the stunt woman Kitty O’Neil was around 825 km / h fast in the same place.

Partner with moving words
Now that the world record is officially owned by Combs, her partner Terri Madden writes an emotional message on Instagram. He has mixed feelings. «It is not worth a record that she is no longer here today. But it was a goal that she really wanted. » It should be her last try, Madden writes. After that, she would have given up chasing records.
