Officer Wounded by Gunshot After Confrontation in The Bronx – NBC New York

A police officer was hospitalized after being shot in the Bronx on Tuesday night, an NYPD official told NBC New York.

Few details about the shooting were immediately available, other than the shooting at Lorillard Place near Third Avenue in the Belmont section. The location is just two blocks from famous Little Italy on Arthur Avenue.

A police spokesman said the officer was shot in the leg and taken to a nearby hospital. The suspect was also hospitalized after being hit by a bullet in the leg.

The officer is expected to recover; the suspect’s condition was not immediately clear. An investigation is ongoing.
