Frankfurt – The fear of another embarrassing appearance was probably too great: Lord Mayor Peter Feldmann (63, SPD) decided not to appear at the “Frankfurt meets Davos” reception at the World Economic Forum. For this he wants to explain himself in Romans.
In his place, Offenbach’s Mayor Felix Schwenke (42, SPD) of all people welcomed the 90 invited guests to the posh Hotel Alpengold.
Despite the overwhelming rejection, which he was now even receiving from his own party, the mayor could not be dissuaded from the trip to the meeting of global economic and political heavyweights in the noble Swiss mountain village: “It is important that the mayor of the largest city in Rhein-Main is present there.”

Now the retreat. Instead of having a break in the “Cheese Factory” event room, Feldmann made his way home to Frankfurt.
Only regrets, no resignation
On Wednesday (May 25, 2022) the mayor wants to make a statement at 11.30 a.m. in front of his office in the Römer. Many Frankfurters hope that he will finally announce his resignation.
But the hope may not be fulfilled. According to BILD information, Peter Feldmann only wants to read an apology for his behavior around Eintracht’s Euro-League victory – cup theft, embarrassing speech, sexism. Supposedly he wants to announce that he will delegate appearances in the Römer and Paulskirche to other dignitaries in the city for the time being and that his SPD membership will be suspended.
His office manager Nils Bremer in the invitation to the statement: “We ask for your understanding that queries on site will unfortunately not be possible.”
