ÖEHV hopes for money from hardship funds

The Austrian Ice Hockey Federation (ÖEHV), which is also affected by the coronavirus pandemic aftermath like all other associations, is hoping for aid from the envisaged sports hardship fund for its clubs. The association, which itself had to send 15 employees on short-time work, said on Friday that ice hockey would also receive a share of it.

“Due to the cancellation of the World Championships for women and men in April and May, the ÖEHV also had to register its employees for short-time work, because our national teams suddenly lost their peak of the season,” said ÖEHV President Gernot Mittendorfer. A total of 15 people are affected by short-time work, including managing director Christian Hartl and men’s team boss Roger Bader.

Sport Austria: 100 million euros needed

It goes without saying that efforts are also being made to help the clubs, which lose a lot of income due to the end of the season before the play-off. “Therefore, we will make every effort to ensure that Austrian ice hockey also has access to the hardship fund. It must be our goal that our members are not threatened by the current financial constraints, ”said Mittendorfer.

Sport Austria President Hans Niessl recently put the emergency aid requirement for Austrian sport at 100 million euros. He had already spoken to Minister of Sport Werner Kogler (Greens) about this, said Niessl at the end of the previous week.
