NY Landmarks Light Up Purple in Honor of Women’s History Month – NBC New York

Governor Kathy Hochul celebrated the start of Women’s History Month on Tuesday, highlighting the achievements of New York women and speaking of her vision for gender equality. In recognition, several New York State landmarks will be illuminated in purple on Tuesday night.

“As the birthplace of the women’s rights movement, the history of women is the history of New York,” said Governor Hochul. “We stand on the shoulders of giants, and as New York State’s first female governor, I know I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for the brave women who blazed the trails I’ve walked. As New Yorkers, we must embrace that legacy.” and ensure that the future we leave our daughters and granddaughters is even brighter and fairer than the one left to us.”

In her proclamation of Women’s History Month, Governor Hochul celebrated the legendary women who pioneered the fields of medicine and health care and praised New York women throughout history for their contributions to politics, culture and more. The Democrat also delivered a message to New Yorkers in honor of Women’s History Month that discusses ongoing work to strengthen child care, expand equal opportunity for all women, and pass an Equal Rights Amendment.

Landmarks that will be illuminated in honor of Women’s History Month include:

  • Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge
  • Kosciuszko Bridge
  • The H. Carl McCall SUNY Building
  • State Education Building
  • Alfred E. Smith State Office Building
  • Empire State Plaza
  • State Fairgrounds – Main Gate and Expo Center
  • Niagara Falls
  • The “Franklin D. Roosevelt” Mid-Hudson Bridge
  • Grand Central Terminal – Pershing Square Viaduct
  • Albany International Airport Gateway
  • MTA Long Island Railroad – East End Gateway at Penn Station
  • Fairport Lift Bridge
