Nupur Sharma’s figure of humiliating the Prophet Muhammad caused an uproar in the world

Jakarta

Juru bicara Partai Bharatiya Janata (BJP) Nupur Sharma created controversy because it was considered insulting to the Prophet Muhammad SAW. The young politician was criticized and eventually fired by the party.

Sharma’s comments about the Prophet Muhammad were made in the debate over the Gyanvapi Mosque case about two weeks ago.

The case came to light when a number of Hindus claimed that the mosque in the holy city of Varanasi was built on the ruins of a 16th-century Hindu temple which was destroyed by Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb in 1669. On that basis, some Hindus have asked the court for permission to worship in the mosque complex.

The court then issued a controversial injunction allowing a videotaped survey of mosques. Video footage is said to feature a stone pillar that petitioners claim is a Sivalinga or symbol of Lord Shiva. However, the mosque insists it is a fountain.

These debates are held in court, but similar debates are ongoing on television as well. Sharma is in the stronghold of Hindu nationalists who are outspoken.

As reported by the Times of India and India Today, Monday (6/6/2022), Nupur Sharma’s insulting comments about the Prophet Muhammad have sparked violent riots in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. It was not explained further about the controversial comments made by Sharma.

Sharma Sosok

Sharma is a 37 year old lawyer. His figure is awaited as the official spokesperson for the BJP in televised debates every night. He represented the party and defended the government in particular PM Narendra Modi, who belongs to the same party.

Majoring in law at Delhi University, Sharma started his political career in 2008. At that time he was elected chairman of the student union nominated by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the Hindu nationalist movement, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

His political career took off in 2011 when he returned to India after earning a bachelor’s degree in international business law at the London School of Economics.

In recent years, Sharma has become a familiar face to television audiences in India. Often he can be heard shouting and making fun of his political opponents.
