Nuisance at Maarheeze Station: NS Staff Calls for Urgent Action

The NS staff is more than fed up with the nuisance at Maarheeze station. Despite the stricter security, they still have to deal with nuisance from asylum seekers from the nearby azc in Budel almost every day. According to Wim Eilert, director of the rail union VVMC, the bucket is overflowing. He has asked the NS via email to take new measures. “Passing the station is also a measure.”

According to trade union leader Wim Eilert, Maarheeze is on a line known as an ‘aggression line’. “The train staff has been dealing with nuisance on the train by asylum seekers from safe countries for a long time. The story goes that they walk around with razor blades. That is the last straw for us. The police say they use them to injure themselves. But recently two groups of asylum seekers attacked each other in the train in Ede. We don’t want that here.”

According to Eilert, security guards at the station in Maarheeze received death threats. “It stops once. There are many complaints about that. I told the Dutch Railways that they should take measures. The staff prefers to drive past the station.”

Good consultation
Trade union director Wim Eilert spoke with the Eindhoven NS staff on Monday evening about the nuisance at Maarheeze station. “I have noticed that they are completely done with the nuisance. They want the NS to take measures quickly. I have sent the NS an email and want to know what measures they will take in the short term. I have not heard anything yet. Driving past the station you don’t just do it. That is in consultation with the mayor. I’ll look at it on Wednesday.”

‘thorn in the eye’
The situation at Maarheeze station is also a ‘thorn in the side’ for the Dutch Railways, a spokesperson said. “It’s a situation no one wants.” There have been entry checks at the station since the beginning of the year. Security guards monitor the situation in and at the station.
