NS runs normally on Sunday, but continues to puzzle with a staff shortage | NOW

NS will restart the normal timetable on Sunday, after several trains were canceled on Saturday due to staff shortages. An NS spokesperson informs NU.nl that the puzzle has been solved for Sunday, but that the shortage of drivers and conductors could cause more problems in the future.

“It is a puzzle every day to make a schedule with enough drivers and conductors,” the spokesperson said. The NS cannot therefore rule out the possibility that train cancellations will occur more often due to staff shortages.

To create more air in the workforce, fewer trains will be running on the Rotterdam-Schiphol-Arnhem route for the time being from Monday. Travelers could previously board this route every ten minutes, which will be every fifteen minutes from Monday.

The NS currently has eleven hundred vacancies and attributes this to the shortage on the labor market. A campaign is underway to recruit more staff. The NS is not only short of drivers and conductors, but also IT staff, mechanics, security and service employees and shop staff at the stations.

Saturday rode Fewer trains on many routes and no trains at all on some parts of the Dutch track as a result of staff shortages. State Secretary Vivianne Heijnen (Infrastructure) previously made it clear to the House of Representatives that the shortages may persist for a longer period of time, even after the summer.
