The documentary has been named “Look At Me”, and premiered at the South By Southwest festival in Austin, Texas this week. It writes Vulture.
On June 10, it will be released on the streaming service Hulu in the USA. In Norway, content from Hulu is available via Disney +.
The film tells the story of how Florida boy Jahseh Onfroy as a teenager broke through as a rapper via SoundCloud. As XXXTentacion, he became one of the world’s most streamed artists.
“Look At Me” has been in production since 2017, but has changed director along the way.
Pregnant
Among the actors in the documentary are the rapper’s mother Cleopatra Bernard and her boyfriend Jenesis Sanchez. She was pregnant when Onfroy was killed, and gave birth to son Gekyume the following year.
Ex-boyfriend Geneva Ayala is also in the film. When the rapper was killed, he was waiting to be brought to justice accused of abusing Ayala, who was pregnant when the abuse took place. The indictment against the rapper was taken out in October 2016, but he never managed to appear in a courtroom or be convicted before he himself was killed.
In June four years ago, the 20-year-old rapper became shot and killed outside a motorcycle dealership in Florida. Four men have been charged with murder and robbery, but the case has not yet been up in court in the United States.
