Cuban and the Mavs sued by Donnie Nelson

The calm did not last very long in the mysteries of the Dallas Mavericks. If all is going well on the pitch at the moment, with a 5th place in the West and great promises for the playoffs, a new scandal has just broken out around the management.

We remember that in 2018, the Mavs had to make amends after an investigation published by Sports Illustrated on the climate of misogyny and the presence of potential sexual predators among its employees, some of whom watched pornographic films in the open space. In particular, it was revealed that the former president of the franchise, Terdema Ussery, was guilty of assault and inappropriate behavior on nearly 15 employees.

Mark Cuban, after trying to settle the matter in private, had indicated his desire to fight more actively against this culture and to change things internally. This time, it’s a former well-known Dallas figure taking on her former employer.

Scandal at the Mavs: a “den of sexual predators”

ESPN reveals that Donnie Nelson, the franchise’s former GM and member of the Mavs for nearly 25 years, decided to file a lawsuit against the franchise. Nelson accuses Mark Cuban of having fired him last summer for the simple reason that he had updated and revealed a sexual assault committed on his own nephew by Jason Lutin, one of Cuban’s right-hand men. The assault allegedly took place at a Chicago hotel during the 2020 All-Star Game weekend.

A few weeks earlier, the Texan businessman had apparently offered Donnie Nelson a 10-year, $52 million contract extension in exchange for giving up his will to file a complaint and a confidentiality clause.

Mark Cuban strongly denied in a statement, saying Nelson’s departure was for business reasons only. Cuban says an investigation was conducted in response to the allegations against Lutin and found nothing wrong.
