After ten years there is one more reason to visit the twin town of Yverdon-les-Bains: After relegation in the 2010/11 season, the local football club has finally qualified again for the Challenge League and will soon be welcoming FC Winterthur.
The beautifully located stadium (near the lake!) Has meanwhile been renovated for over nine million francs, and construction work is due to be completed this summer. Before that, the stadium in Yverdon was quite dilapidated, but quite charming. It dates from 1961 and is even a bit older than the twinning with Winterthur, which has existed since 1969.
Festively escorted guests
For a long time the stadium was as rusty as the stadium City partnership with Winterthur. The last time there was a major attempt to revive it was in 2010. A delegation from Winterthur visited the city on Lake Neuchâtel for its 750th anniversary and was given a festive welcome. A brass band escorted the guests to a happy aperitif.
Ironically, in the relegation season, you could say in retrospect. The FC Winterthur players also enjoyed generous hospitality and freedom in Yverdon back then. In any case, they won 0: 3 in Yverdon. A certain Luca Zuffi scored an important goal for FCW at the time.
