Justin Njinmah’s Contract Extension Plans and Impressive Performance at Werder Bremen

Last summer, Justin Njinmah (23) returned to Werder Bremen from a loan spell at BVB. Since then, the young striker has impressed with his performance and speed on the pitch and has developed into a regular player and goalscorer.

Most recently, SPORT BILD reported on Bremen’s plan to extend Njinmah’s contract early. Now the attacker has commented on it himself for the first time. The Hamburg native: “We will have discussions about this in the next few weeks and months. In principle, this is definitely conceivable.”

The offensive man was on the pitch in 21 of 23 league games this season, scored five times and is therefore in second place on the Bremen top scorer list (behind Ducksch/9). Njinmah, whose current contract runs until at least 2025, is working really well at Werder. A development that he could perhaps jeopardize with a move in the summer.

Njinmah: “I’m basically a guy who wants to play. I have to clearly weigh up where I can play and where I will get the appreciation. I’m currently getting it here. That’s why I can well imagine an extension. But – I have to be honest – a lot can happen quickly in football.”

Fast – a key word for Njinmah. Twice in a row he was the fastest professional of the match day (most recently 35.53 km/h), and he got onto the DFB’s radar just as quickly.

“The player is in our broader field of vision,” said DFB Sport managing director Andreas Rettig in SPORT BILD.

Njinmah, who could also play for Nigeria, is happy: “Nick Woltemade showed me in the dressing room that that was in the article. When you hear that you’re on the national team’s list and they notice you, it motivates every player to keep going and get even better. If you continue to accelerate now, it might not be as far off as you always imagined.”
