Not all retailers sell cooking oil at a price of Rp. 14 thousand

Even though the government has set a price cooking oil Rp14 thousand per liter retail which took effect on Wednesday (19/1), not all of them have implemented the policy.

An officer at the Indomaret Parung Indah branch, Yelmia Dani, said the price of Rp. 14,000 was effective starting this Wednesday (19/1). However, he does not know how long the price will last.

He explained that the regulation came from the center to prevent customers from trying to buy up cooking oil stocks. However, there are still customers who come and ask if they can buy more than two pieces.

However, Alfamart has not made any price changes. Even though the government stated that the cooking oil price of Rp. 14 thousand has been in effect starting Wednesday (19/1) at 00.00, until Wednesday morning, the price of cooking oil has not yet been lowered.

An official at the Alfamart Kebayoran Arcade Daffa branch said the price of Rp. 14 thousand per liter could only be applied on Wednesday (19/1) at 14.00.

“It’s still being processed. I had information earlier, later at 14:00 the price will change,” said Daffa.

Daffa said that after the price of cooking oil became Rp. 14 thousand, purchases would be limited to two packages per purchase receipt.

“Purchases are limited to a maximum of 2 in one receipt, for fear that many will buy and others are afraid that they won’t get it,” said Daffa.

Corporate Affairs Director Alfamart Solihin explained that the delay in the decline might just be a matter of changing the cooking oil price at each outlet.

“Essentially, we have been asked by the government to sell the price per liter of Rp. 14 thousand,” said Solihin, contacted separately.

Nevertheless, he confirmed that a number of the company’s outlets had lowered the price of cooking oil to Rp. 14,000 per liter according to the government’s directive. For the record, the company currently operates 17 thousand stores.

“There have been (those that have gone down) but if they haven’t yet, it’s still in the process. But I’m sure that all of them will sell the price, as set by the government, which is 14 thousand per liter,” he said.

For information, the Minister of Trade Muhammad Lutfi stated that Rp. 14,000 of cooking oil would be sold simultaneously in all modern retailers registered as members of the Indonesian Retail Entrepreneurs Association (Aprindo) starting Wednesday (19/1) for the next 6 months.

His party threatened that producers or cooking oil companies selling above the price of Rp. 14 thousand per liter would be subject to sanctions up to the revocation of their business licenses.

Lutfi appealed to the public not to panic buying cooking oil for Rp. 14,000 per liter. The government has guaranteed that the supply and stock of cooking oil at a price of Rp. 14 thousand per liter can certainly meet the needs of the entire community.
