Not a fan of improved controls? Mafia: Definitive Edition solves that problem with Classic Mode

Mafia: Definitive Edition brings us back to the grim crime world of the original Mafia game from 2002, but of course completely adapted to modern standards. However, this does not mean that the original is not honored, for example, we were previously told that the structure of the game will remain unchanged. That line is also continued in the actual gameplay, because players are given the opportunity to play the game in a so-called “Classic Mode”.

Haden Blackman of Hangar 13 spoke in one recent interview about the existence of this mode. More specifically, this mode is intended to give players a Mafia experience, as it was in 2002, so expect, among other things, vastly outdated gameplay mechanics and an operating system that will be anything but smooth. However, Blackman indicates that this mode is certainly not made to please the general public, but rather to give the game’s hardcore fans a sort of nostalgic feel.

[Classic Mode] has all the settings dialed into what the experience was like if you’ve played the original Mafia. So that’s great for the hardcore fans to experience the game at that level with the same driving controls, the police reacting to your infractions the same way. And then we go all the way to experience the story, you can dial all that stuff back.

Mafia: Definitive Edition will be released on September 25.
