North Korea announced tests of a hypersonic missile

DPRK again took up missile launches

After launch, the rocket made a side maneuver of 120 km and hit a target set at 700 km, according to Pyongyang.

The DPRK on Wednesday conducted a successful test launch of a hypersonic missile. About it reported North Korea’s Central Telegraph Agency (CTAC) Thursday 6 January.

“During the test launch, the Defense Academy confirmed the controllability and stability of the missile in the active phase and assessed the capabilities of the lateral maneuver technology recently introduced into a separate warhead of a hypersonic gliding flight,” the statement said.

It is alleged that after the launch, the rocket separated and in the flight phase of the hypersonic glider combat group made a lateral maneuver 120 km from the initial launch azimuth to the target azimuth and hit the target set at 700 km. The reliability of fuel amplification systems in winter climatic conditions was also tested.

“During the test firing, the maneuverability and stability of a hypersonic gliding combat unit, combining multi-stage gliding and strong lateral maneuvering, was clearly demonstrated,” the agency writes.

It is also indicated that successful successful tests in the field of hypersonic missiles are of strategic importance for accelerating the task of modernizing national strategic forces.

As a reminder, on January 5, North Korea produced launch of an unknown projectile towards the Sea of Japan. Then it was assumed that we can talk about a ballistic missile.

This was the first test of the DPRK’s weapons in 2022. The previous one took place on October 19, 2021, when North Korea tested new ballistic missile submarines… That launch was the eighth last year.
