Nobar World Cup and English League Without Permission Can Be Sanctioned

Jakarta

SCM Media Group, broadcasting rights owner 2022 World Cup and Premier League appealed to the public not to hold arbitrarily watching together. Legal sanctions can be imposed.

SCM (PT Surya Citra Media, Tbk) will broadcast the 2022 World Cup and the 2022-2025 Premier League season. To protect their rights, SCM also cooperates with the Directorate General of Intellectual Property of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia and the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police.

In addition, they also appointed a subsidiary of IEG (PT Indonesia Entertainment Group), as the official partner regarding the management of the rights to organize viewing activities together (nobar). The property for the World Cup and the English League is fully the commercial rights of SCM as the purchaser of the broadcasting rights for the two events.

Watching together (nobar) activities that are usually held by communities now have to be licensed. The show is not allowed to be watched by a large audience, let alone to seek profit by applying an entrance ticket.

In fact, SCM also strictly forbids barbaric activities in non-commercial environments. For example, nobar in the villages to the patrol post.

“So what is called Nobar, you collect a fee or you don’t collect a fee, you have to ask for permission. Even if you watch it (nobar) on free to air (FTA), because what is called an FTA is a program that is free, but it is free for personal use,” said the Director IEG Hendry Lim at SCTV Tower, Thursday (23/6/2022).

“So FTA is to be watched in private. There are also paid ones besides FTA. We make the paid ones as cheap as possible. Indonesia is a paid country, one of the cheapest in the world, checking in neighboring countries is several times more than us,” he said.

Hendry continued, with the low cost that has been implemented in Indonesia, broadcasting rights piracy should no longer exist. For this reason, his party will work hard to campaign for awareness to respect copyright.

Owners of broadcasting rights have paid dearly, hoping that the return on investment is difficult to happen. Profit can only be obtained if public awareness is high.

“We urge the public not to violate the rights of the SCM and IEG Groups which have been regulated in the laws and regulations in force in the territory of the Republic of Indonesia,” said Brigadier General. Pol. Anom Wibowo, Director of Investigation and Dispute Resolution of the Directorate General of Intellectual Property RI Ministry of Law and Human Rights.

“Some of them are Law Number 32 of 2002 concerning Broadcasting, Law Number 28 of 2014 concerning Copyright, Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions,” he said.
