A new study confirms this. British researchers * analyzed a total of 49 studies on the subject.
In this corpus of international publications **, 655 mothers had given life to 666 infants. A total of 292 births took place vaginally. Among them, only 2.7% were affected by a Covid-19 case in mothers. Of the 364 women who delivered by caesarean section, 5.3% were positive for Covid-19. Result, “the rate of neonatal infection is not higher compared to the average,” says Dr. Kate Walker, leading this analysis. And when “the babies got Covid-19, the vast majority of cases turned out to be asymptomatic”.
Breastfeeding, skin to skin
Until now, “Cesarean deliveries have been recommended to limit the risk of vaginal contamination”. Two other reflexes were also in place: “the isolation of the newborn at birth and the fact of feeding the infant with industrial milk rather than breast” to limit contact. However, these recommendations do not seem to be justified. “The level of evidence regarding these three situations turns out to be extremely low. “
Note: barrier gestures and the wearing of a mask must remain everyday reflexes, especially for pregnant women 6 months and older. Indeed, the third trimester of pregnancy is associated with a natural decline in immunity.
