After thirteen championship medals, Maiken Caspersen Falla has done her thing. Norway’s sprint star leaves and leaves a hole in the sprint team. “I have the feeling that it is enough now,” she tells NRK.

A successful career in the absolute world elite in cross-country skiing is over. Maiken Caspersen Falla – with one Olympic gold and five World Cup golds on the merit list – resigns.

– The feeling has developed over a long period of time. I have been around for a long time and achieved all my dreams and goals, says Falla NRK.

– In recent years, the body has not responded as before and it needs to receive another treatment. I see no point in pushing it anymore. I have the feeling that it is enough now.

Falla took two straight individual World Cup gold medals in the sprint (2017 and 2019) and sprint gold in the Sochi Olympics 2014. In the Oberstdorf World Cup 2021, she was second in the sprint – despite a season full of health problems.

Last season was not successful with medal misses at the Olympics in China.

Norway is now forced to patch another hole in its women’s team. The distance queen Therese Johaug has resigned and now the sprint star Maiken Caspersen Falla is also excluded.

– There is a form of uncertainty. At the same time, I know how much work is put in, so it will not go bad. I hope they succeed, says Falla.
