No parade, no patriotism and no Putin: the Red Square remains empty

In most European countries, the number of covid-19 infections seems to have peaked, but in Russia it continues to rise, despite lockdown measures. The total now stands at nearly 188,000.

In official reports, however, the mortality rate hardly increases. According to those numbers, 1,723 people have now died of Covid-19, less than 1 percent of the number of patients.

There is much criticism of the figures and communications of the Russian government. In the last few weeks, far more people have died than average from pneumonia, which raises the question of whether these are actually covid-19 patients.

Hospitals, especially outside Moscow, have shortages of mask, protective clothing and respiratory equipment.
