No demonstration tomorrow when the Frisian brother of Sinterklaas enters

KOZP says at a different, self-chosen moment, in Grou still to use the right to demonstrate.

The municipality had assigned KOZP a field across the water because they were afraid of a confrontation with supporters of Zwarte Piet. The police had information that ‘pros’ were planning to come to Grou.

Yellow vests-KOZP

Jerry Affriyie of KOZP does not find the attitude of the municipality surprising, he says. “Perhaps we should call ourselves Farmers Defense Force KOZP or Yellow Hesjes KOZP to be able to make full use of our rights. Because one thing is certain: peaceful demonstrators will be punished and violent pro pieters cuddled.”

The Frisian village of Grou does not celebrate Sinterklaas in December, but has its own tradition: every year here in February Sint Piter, the Frisian brother of Sinterklaas, is caught up. The tradition dates from the 19th century and is very similar to the regular Sinterklaas celebration.

That includes Zwarte Piet, although his name is Swarte Pyt and he is on his own.
