NJ Transit and Amtrak at Penn Station Face Long Delays Due to Fire – NBC New York (47)

Commuters looking to return home from New York City to New Jersey are facing lengthy delays at Penn Station as NJ Transit and Amtrak temporarily suspended all rail service in the middle of the afternoon rush hour.

Both transit agencies announced that service at the NY-Penn Station stopped around 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

NJ Transit said all rail service in and out of the downtown station had been temporarily suspended due to a fire near Secaucus.

It was later reported that the service was launched, but with delays of up to an hour and a half.

Amtrak noted that service was halted between New York and Newark due to police and fire activity near the track. The service was back in operation shortly before 7 pm, but many trains were delayed.

NJ Transit reported that rail tickets and passes would be approved by PATH at Newark Penn Station, Hoboken and 33rd Street-New York, as well as on bus service.
