Nissan counts on new electric model in recovery plan NOW

Nissan should be profitable again in financial year 2021. That is what CEO Makoto Uchida said on Monday during the annual meeting. The Japanese brand is counting on a new fully electric model, which will be presented next month.

“I will get Nissan’s growth back on track,” said Uchida during a live stream from the Japanese city of Yokohama. The brand wants to cut costs for approximately 2.5 billion euros. This means, among other things, that Nissan will cut its activities outside of China, Japan and the United States.

A new all-electric model should help Nissan quickly write black numbers again. It will therefore unveil an electric crossover in Japan next month.

At the end of 2019, Nissan already showed what this model will look like with the Ariya Concept. It is not known whether the name will be retained. Nissan also keeps the specifications and delivery date of the model under control.

Nissan has been supplying the electric Leaf in the Netherlands since the beginning of 2011. This made it the first brand to offer a serious electric car. The second generation came on the market in 2018. The Nissan Leaf is the best-selling electric car ever after the Tesla Model 3.
