Nintendo has sold its Switch console 52.5 million times. This means that the game console is sold more often than the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), whose counter stands at 49.1 million. This is apparent from the company’s quarterly figures presented on Thursday (pdf).
In the past three months, Nintendo has sold around 10.8 million copies of the Switch. The game console is a lot more successful than its predecessor, the Wii U. Of these, a total of 13.56 million units were sold.
Nintendo announced that a total of 382.2 million Switch games were sold. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe With 23 million copies sold, it is the most popular game for the console, followed by Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (17.7 million) and Super Mario Odyssey (16.6 million).
From Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield 16 million units were sold. These games appeared in November last year.
The Nintendo 3DS, the company’s handheld, is being sold less and less. The last quarter involved 260,000 copies. In the preceding three months, 370,000 units were sold. The device has been on the market since 2011.
