John Linnemann in a new podcasts revealed that according to his sources at a given time the nintendo considered launching a Nintendo Switch Probut later abandoned the idea to focus on a new generation of consoles.
So I think at some point internally from what I can gather from talking to different developers is that there was some sort of mid-gen update for the Switch planned at some point and that doesn’t seem to be happening anymore. And so it’s pretty clear that whatever they do next is truly next-gen hardware. I don’t think it will be 2023.
Mid-generation updates are a frequent element of Apple’s portable platforms. nintendo over the years, with options like the DSi and New Nintendo 3DS offering improvements over its predecessor. Given the struggles the entire industry has had with chip shortages over the past couple of years, it’s possible that Nintendo decided to switch to OLED Switch rather than releasing a more significant update.
