Twitter test function to limit who can reply to tweets – IT Pro – News

Clicking it provides a popup explaining that answering is not possible and offers the option to view the conversation.

Every GUI I know with grayed-out buttons speaks for itself, Twitter has to add an extra popup to let you know as a user why you can’t respond.

If it should be so obvious that there is no response, why is this button visible? And why do you want to point out extra to people that they cannot respond, the grayed-out button does that anyway?

Publicly, someone could now drop very bold statements, talk about it with the ‘selected few’ and no one can respond. Why should that be done publicly? I can imagine that this can be ‘abused’ for political matters. For politics you can also fill in gender, racism and other matters as far as I am concerned. Those are the topics that Twitter has become quite big with.

If I am against this, will people translate this to ‘bazs2000 is against freedom of speech’?

I have already read on Twitter that for some groups this means that this is an ultimate form of freedom because others suddenly cannot interfere with it. Crooked toes yes, I am also an anonymous person with an opinion.
