Here is a visit, better still, a family visit-workshop called “Céra’mythe.” Heroes, gods, monsters … Mythology is an inexhaustible source of inspiration that can be found in many ancient settings. Beyond their usefulness, the richly decorated objects tell stories dear to the eyes of the Greeks and Romans. Ceramic, like mosaic, is a privileged medium on which to represent myths. Parents and children, today it’s your turn to engrave and paint together the story of your choice on ceramic!
Another family workshop-visit, “Draw me a monster” is quite special! The copyist monks take over the workshop of the Musée de la Romanité. Equipped with lecterns (inclined desks) and manuscripts, they bring to life the fantastic imagination of the Middle Ages. Parents and children, get to know the medieval bestiary (monsters, unicorns, phoenixes, etc.), then recreate your favorite model.
Even the plants!
Always a family visit-workshop, “Secrets of plants, on the archaeological trail!” Plants have always been staunch allies of Man, but what about in Gallic, Roman and medieval times? What place did nature occupy in the daily life of our ancestors? Find out with this walking tour in the museum garden and you will see that some of the uses are amazing! For the “Little Emperors”, another alternative is possible in connection with the temporary exhibition “The Roman Emperor, a mortal among the gods”. Augustus, the first Roman emperor and central figure in this exhibition, is often represented wearing crowns. Whether in oak leaves or radiate (sunrays), the crown is a strong element in Roman times since it shows the importance of the person who wears it: victory, immortality, triumph, etc.
In this same theme, don’t forget to visit the magnificent temporary exhibition, “The Roman Emperor, a mortal among the gods“which traces the origins and development of the imperial cult established by the first emperor of Rome. How does Augustus combine religion, politics and official art to legitimize his power and establish his image throughout the Empire? public nuns celebrated around his actions, proximity to the gods, the emperor was considered during his lifetime as the soul of the state whose prosperity he guaranteed. In Gaul Narbonnaise, a province whose Romanization was early, the manifestations of this worship are particularly significant.In Nîmes, you will discover how the imperial worship is embodied through two essential sites: the Maison Carrée and the Augusteum of the site of the Fontaine (Price 12 euros).

On July 17 in the museum auditorium, Éric Teyssier will come and present his first Roman novel to you. Author of the Great Roman Games, Éric Teyssier also and above all defended a state thesis on gladiators. Author of the reference book on Antiquity in the region (Nîmes la romaine, Alcide editions), he wanted to use his experience to reconstruct the life of the Nîmes in a novel. In 96 AD. AD when the arenas are built, from Southern Gaul to Rome via Germany, from twists to dramas, Éric Teyssier invites you on a thrilling journey through time. In the tradition of great historical novels, The prophecy of the eagless is a real thriller set in the heart of a Roman world at the height of its glory. His conference on the subject will take place from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and will be followed by a signing session. Free and without reservation, subject to availability.
