Nikon is releasing a successor to the existing D750 full-frame camera. The new D780 will cost 2499 euros and has a number of specifications that are comparable to the Z6 system camera, although the D780 is just like its predecessor an SLR camera.
The Nikon D780 has a sensor with a resolution of 24.5 megapixels, which is now backside illuminated is. It is probably the same sensor as that of the mirrorless Nikon Z6. The image processor is the Expeed 6, which can also be found in the Z6 and Z7. The iso range has been increased to 100 to 51,200 iso, which can be expanded to 50 – 204,800 iso.
The new camera has a similar autofocus system in Live View mode as that of the Z cameras, with 273 focus points available. The phase detection autofocus system via the optical viewfinder has 51 focal points, of which 15 are cross-sensitive. Nikon says that an autofocus algorithm of the D5 camera is used in the D780.
Shooting takes seven frames per second with the mechanical shutter, or twelve frames per second when the electronic shutter is used via the live view mode. The resolution of the tilting and touch-sensitive 3.2 “LCD on the back is 2.36 million pixels and the optical viewfinder has a magnification of 0.70x.
Recording videos with the D780 is also similar to the Z6. Recording of 4k images in combination with 30fps is supported. In addition, it is possible to record images in 1080p resolution with a maximum of 120 images per second. In addition, recording in 10-bit in n-log or hlg is supported and Nikon has built-in a timelapse function.
The Nikon D780 has two card slots that are suitable for uhs-II-sd cards. The camera is available from January 23 for an advice of 2499 euros. In combination with the AF-S 24-120 mm f / 4.0 the amount is 2999.
Nikon is also releasing two new lenses, including a telephoto zoom for full-frame DSLRs: the AF-S Nikkor 120-300 mm f / 2.8 and one for the Z system cameras. 70-200 mm f / 2.8. The former receives a suggested retail price of 10,999 euros, while the second must cost 2,799 euros; both lenses are available from February.
