Nicolaï Pedersen had signed for two seasons when he arrived at the CCMHB last summer. And, somewhere, the Danish rear will have honored them. Even if it’s not quite as his staff had imagined: “Nicolaï asked us to release him during the truce for personal reasons *. And as we generally do, we allowed him to do it, after a year of contract, ”says Toni Gerona, his coach, a bit disappointed by this outcome.
Because since the announcement of his departure at the end of the season to the Danish club Gudme OG, on February 8, Pedersen, in difficulty since September, is transfigured. His efficiency at half mast (less than 50% in the first part of the season) was followed by a realism that made the Scandinavian the spearhead of the Chartres attack when challenging Montpellier this Wednesday, June 1 (8 p.m.), culminating in a successful 10/12 in Aix on May 6 (32-28 defeat).
“I’m a little sad because I ended up taking my bearings”
To explain this metamorphosis, the 28-year-old Dane offers an explanation: “Initially, I suffered quite a bit from the language barrier, except with Morten (Vium, his Danish compatriot). Communication with partners was not necessarily easy. And that could have led to misunderstandings and bad choices”, analyzes the colossus (1.95 m, 98 kg) who came from the cold, author of an insipid 0/8 during the sinking of Saran, on February 18 (23-30 ).
Rather than feeling sorry for himself, Pedersen then redoubled his efforts in training, but not only. “7 to 8 hours a week, I took French lessons”, confides the left-back, with effects which lead him today to speak the language of Molière more than suitably.

The C’Chartres MHB made the Parisian ogre falter
A tactical readjustment completed its spectacular recovery in February. “The team runs a lot more than before. We score easy goals, proceeding with quick attacks. And in a way, it reminded me of the way of playing in Denmark”, warns the one who had only known the “domestic” championship before the big departure for Beauce, last summer. Learning the language helping, Pedersen also ended up finding his marks with his teammates.
Symbol of this budding complicity, his goal in Nancy, ranked in the five most beautiful of the 27th day: “Kung fu, we had worked on it in training several times with Sergiy (Onufriyenko) but this is the first times it worked! It’s all the more fun,” notes Pedersen, who is playing one of his last three matches with the CCMHB this Wednesday, with a touch of nostalgia: “I’m a little sad because I ended up taking my bearings with my partners and that I am currently evolving at my best level”, observes the Scandinavian, visibly affected by his departure. “If I manage to find a teacher in Denmark, I will continue to learn French. A not-so-innocent resolution.
His companion, at the end of her veterinary studies and who remained in Denmark, was offered a professional opportunity which she accepted.
