American hockey goalie Jonathan Quick is leaving Los Angeles after 16 years. The Kings sent him to Columbus three days before the NHL trade deadline for defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov and goaltender Joonas Korpisal.

Further details are unknown, the clubs have not yet officially confirmed the transaction. However, according to the specialized portals Sportsnet and Daily Faceoff, the “Kings” also gave up their choice in the 1st round of this year’s draft.

Thirty-seven-year-old Quick has been loyal only to Los Angeles throughout his professional league career so far. The Kings drafted him in 2005 in the 3rd round from the overall 72nd place, he debuted in the pro league in the 2007/2008 season. In 2012 and 2014, he played a significant role in winning the Stanley Cup.

In the current year, he caught 31 matches for the “Kings”, in which he achieved an average of 3.50 goals per match and a success rate of 91.1 percent. In total, he has 743 duels in the regular season and 92 in the playoffs. After this season, his 10-year contract that guaranteed him an average of $5.8 million per season expires, and he can become an unrestricted free agent this summer, just like Gavrikov and Korpisalo.

Twenty-seven-year-old Gavrikov was one of the most sought-after defensemen on the transfer market, burdening the Blue Jackets’ salary budget with the amount of $2.8 million. In 52 duels this season, he scored three goals and seven assists. A year older, Korpisalo also spent his entire career in Columbus. In the current NHL season, the Finnish goalkeeper has saved 28 games with a goal average of 3.17 and a success rate of 91.3 percent.

Quick is the next major figure and club icon to switch jerseys before the deadline, following Patrick Kane, who headed from Chicago to the NY Rangers on Tuesday. For the first time in the history of the four most important overseas professional leagues (MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL), the exchange of two players who played for one club for 15 or more seasons took place in one season and on one day.
