Confinements, but also competition from VTCs are in question, with prices which have not increased for ten years. The drivers therefore multiply the demonstrations, as explained by Bhairavi Desai, president of the Union of New York taxis. At its headquarters, moreover, the waiting room is still full: since the pandemic, there have been 35% additional memberships, 7,000 more members. This is particularly the case of Assi Adopo, who comes to find out about post-Covid aid, after having almost stopped everything.
Since 2011, New York taxi revenues have fallen 30%. They have obtained aid from the city and are now authorized to work for VTC applications. But they continue to fight so that their legendary yellow taxis are not put away in the souvenir department.
