New York paints lettering in front of Trump Tower in Manhattan

“We liberate Fifth Avenue”: New York Mayor Bill de Blasio and activists set an example. The gigantic lettering was in the street painted in front of Trump Tower in Manhattan.

“Black Lives Matter” is now written in yellow letters in front of Trump Tower on New York’s Fifth Avenue. Mayor Bill de Blasio and his wife Chirlane McCray joined artists and activists to paint the lettering on the streets of Manhattan on Thursday. “We’re making a statement today about what we value in New York. We’re making a statement about what matters,” de Blasio said. “We liberate Fifth Avenue.”

The yellow letters are painted on the asphalt in such a way that they can be easily read from Trump Tower. Throughout the day, onlookers flocked to the site, holding placards protesting US President Donald Trump and posing for photos in front of the letters.

Trump had previously complained about the announcement of the lettering on Twitter. He called the lettering in a similar form in front of the White House in Washington and in many other places in the country a “symbol of hatred”. The Black Lives Matter movement opposes police brutality and racism.
