The latest to do so has been the Guggenheim museum, which raises rates for the first time since 2015 citing “persistent financial stress caused by the pandemic,” according to statements by a person in charge to the New York Times.

Two weeks ago, it was the Whitney Museum, which, like the Guggenheim, specializes in contemporary art, also raised the ticket from $25 to $30.

Before them, the MET Museum, which is one of the most visited in the United States, raised prices to the same range in July 2022 -also from 25 to 30-, although in its case it maintains the “Pay what you want” policy. for those who can prove with a document that they are residents of New York or neighboring New Jersey.

The fee for the American Museum of Natural History, famous for its fossil and dinosaur collections, is already close at $28, though it also offers voluntary payments to New York residents, while the last of the “big guys,” the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) remains at 25 dollars.

The specialized portal Artnews.com highlights that with these prices, New York museums are among the most expensive in the world; Indeed, other large museums have much lower rates, such as the Louvre (15 euros) or the Prado (15 euros). EFE
