Jonathan Greenblatt of the Anti-Defamation League, which fights against discrimination against Jews, accused the mayor of attacking the entire Jewish population of New York. City council Chaim Deutsch criticized de Blasio for reproaching Jews even though they were already increasingly the target of hate crimes. It is estimated that there are one million Jews in New York, about ten percent of whom are Orthodox.
