New York far exceeds its previous record for daily infections with 85,476 new infections.

Paris, Jan 1 (Cinktank.com) –

New York state clearly broke the daily record for new coronavirus infections with 85,476 new confirmed cases in the past 24 hours, 9,000 more than Friday and well above the average of 6,700 infections.

New York City continues to lead the data in terms of infection rate, with an average of 419 cases per 100,000 population in the past seven days, according to data from Bloomberg and Johns Hopkins University.

Hospital admissions also continue to increase, with 532 more patients than the previous day, reaching 8,451. The positivity rate, however, declined slightly to 22.24%. In addition, 88 deaths were recorded.
