New York Allocates Funds for Affordable Child Care

New York has $2 billion in state and federal funding available for families who need help finding affordable child care.

State Governor Kathy Hochul was in the Canarsie section of Brooklyn to give details on the plan, approved last month as part of the state budget law.

The measure includes free childcare for both students and faculty at all CUNY and SUNY system university campuses.

Hochul said the pandemic has exacerbated a disparity, showing how difficult it is for essential workers to find child care for their children.

And he stressed that working remotely has not been easy, especially for African-American and Hispanic parents, who were frontline essential workers.

Now that most restrictions due to the coronavirus have been lifted, calls are growing to help families get child care services and get workers back on the job.
