New York agencies prepare emergency resources in the event of possible bad weather – Telemundo New York (47)

NEW YORK – Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Wednesday directed state agencies to prepare emergency response resources because the remnants are expected to from Tropical Storm Fred brought heavy rains and flash flooding to various parts of the state.

Heavy rains from the remnants of Tropical Storm Fred could begin to affect these areas in the late afternoon and leave the state by Thursday noon.

Many areas will see up to four inches of rain, the governor said, with even higher amounts possible locally, especially in the Capital Region, Mohawk Valley and Southern Tier, where some locations could see more than six inches of rain.

Heavy rains are likely to cause poor-drainage flash flooding and low-lying areas, especially in the Finger Lakes region, where some places received as much as four inches of rain Tuesday. Rivers and streams can rise rapidly from Wednesday night through Thursday. Also, unstable weather conditions can create the slim chance of an isolated tornado during the rain event.

Governor Cuomo urged New Yorkers to prepare for flash flood conditions and keep an eye on local forecasts for updated conditions. You can see the latest from our Time Authority here.

“The remnants of Tropical Storm Fred are poised to impact various parts of the state through tomorrow with heavy rain and flash flooding, especially in parts of the Finger Lakes where they already received a lot of rain yesterday,” Governor Cuomo said. “State agencies are in touch and ready to assist local governments with anything they may need. As the storm approaches, I urge anyone within these areas to keep a close eye on the weather and take action now to avoid flood damage or injury. conditions “.
