New route network organization of Avianca Holdings – Companies – Economy

After achieving the renegotiation of all its financial obligations and a new agreement to postpone and cancel the incorporation of aircraft, the turn of the adjustments at Avianca Holdings reached its route network.

According to the company, As of March 29, a reorganization that seeks to strengthen international connectivity from Bogotá will begin to govern, but also strengthening activities in the hub From El Salvador.

“Avianca’s strategic decision to adjust its route network seeks to benefit its passengers and offer them better options to connect with the world.

To do this, we have advanced a series of efforts that allow Bogotá to become the most important air connections center in the region, taking into account its favorable geographical location, availability of personnel and resources, as well as the confidence that the company has in the air development of the city and the country, ”said Anko van der Werff, executive president of the company.

The manager added that San Salvador will continue to be positioned as the center of operations for the region to connect efficiently with the north and south of the continent.

The changes

The modification to its operation scheme will imply, in the first instance, an increase in capacity from Bogotá and key cities, which will double its operation to Washington and Santo Domingo, operating 14 weekly frequencies instead of seven.

To Brazil, it will have seven additional frequencies to São Paulo, for a total of 21, and to Rio de Janeiro it will enable five additional frequencies, for a total of 12 a week.

Meanwhile, towards Aruba there will be three additional frequencies per week for a total of 14, while in high season it will have seven additional frequencies to Orlando and Fort Lauderdale, going from 7 to 14 flights per week.

Likewise, it will have double-aisle airplanes with a capacity between 250 and 300 seats, on routes to Mexico City, Cancun and New York, and A320neo airplanes with a capacity of between 153 and 156 seats for passengers and with better performance for routes to the Caribbean , center and South America.

And after closing an important part of the local routes in Peru, from Lima, Avianca will double its operation to Miami with 7 additional frequencies for a total of 14; while from San Salvador it will have an additional frequency per week to Los Angeles, for a total of 28.

The change will imply the modification of the direct connections that I had in Lima and in San Pedro Sula (Honduras), which will be connected through the hub from Bogotá and Lima, to have a more efficient operation and offer customers a greater offer of flights and connections.

The company said that passengers who are going to have a change in their travel plans are being contacted to notify them.

The new routes

And subject to government approvals, Avianca will begin the operation of the Bogotá – Porto Alegre route in Brazil in June of this year, which had been carried out from Lima, and will remain so until June.

Last December, the company began operating direct routes to Asunción (Paraguay) and to Montevideo (Uruguay) from Bogotá.

He added that in the first semester he will announce the opening of routes to new destinations in North and South America once the respective permits are available.
