New Federal Council President Eder-Gitschthaler wants to strengthen cooperation and rural areas

Andrea Eder-Gitschthaler will take over the chair of the regional chamber for the second half of this year and plans to examine in more detail the key role of coexistence now and in the future in a study on November 4th. In addition, on September 15, the Salzburg state parliament would meet again for the “Bundesrat im Bundesland”, she announced.

The corona pandemic, in particular, makes it clear how necessary the culture of togetherness and tackling together to overcome the crisis are convinced, the Federal Council President is convinced and sees regionalization as an imperative of the hour.

“The past few months have shown that subsidiarity works right down to the lowest level,” said Andrea Eder-Gitschthaler. Her motto therefore fits into the guiding theme “Master Plan for Rural Areas”, which is currently generally supported by the Chair of the State Chamber. Decentralization is a strong motor for social change, the decentralization of the administration, including cultural institutions, strengthens regional innovative capacity and increases efficiency, according to Eder-Gitschthaler, who is emphatically committed to the settlement of federal and state institutions as an “effective instrument of Structural policy “.

For Eder-Gitschthaler, rural coexistence is largely shaped by local culture and volunteering. Therefore, the honorary offices and the voluntary work must be promoted, the president demands and suggests a tax recognition of voluntary work as “a clear sign for more fairness towards those who do something for the common good”.

The President is particularly concerned about the emigration of several thousand well-educated people to metropolitan areas every year, especially the emigration of young women. That is why she wants to work particularly hard to get girls interested in STEM subjects. Eder-Gitschthaler explicitly welcomed the zipper system for election lists and a quota system. Another important concern for her is the topic of female pensions, the improvement of childcare facilities and the compatibility of care and work.

The new President of the Federal Council also drew attention to the fact that the coming half-year will be marked by important anniversaries. The Federal Constitution celebrates its 100th birthday as does the Federal Council. And in December, the Federal Council and the National Council will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Second Republic in a joint meeting.
