In Vienna, the winter newcomer, who is supposed to replace captain Lukas Tursch, presented himself with a goal when he debuted for Linz. For the Blau-Wei coach, the commitment a few hours before the end of the transfer was a real gold pick: “As a left foot he gives us completely different opportunities in the build-up game. In the autumn we even played with four right feet in the back four.”
Wimmer’s ex-club Vorwrts Steyr could also have used the 25-year-old in the 2-0 opener against Wacker Innsbruck, in which the Tyroleans demonstrated their ambitions for promotion. However, the Steyr Presidium decided to collect a compensation for Wimmer six months before the end of the contract – and thus enabled the longstanding head of defense to get the first professional contract of his career. Blau-Wei also got out with a financial gain. The income for the Tursch sold was significantly higher than the expenditure for Wimmer. Brunmayr: “I’ve been following him for a long time. Whenever you believed that the next step would be successful, he was seriously injured. I’m sure that he will succeed in this step with us and that he still has a lot of potential.”
