New Düsseldorf court music

description

The name of the ensemble is not only a reference to the place where it was founded, but also to the revival of a musical tradition as it existed in the baroque heyday of the city of Düsseldorf with its musical dukes and electors. Performers who have long and intensively dealt with historical performance practice and have specialized in making music with authentic instruments stand for the high level of this undertaking.

The main focus of the Neue Düsseldorfer Hofmusik’s artistic work is the intensive cooperation with the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, where the orchestra has been interpreting the baroque opera repertoire as an original sound ensemble since 2001. A much-noticed Monteverdi cycle was realized in the production by Christoph Loy. This collaboration continued in a broad Rameau cycle. The first production of this cycle was the opera “Les Paladins” staged by Arila Siegert and conducted by Konrad Junghänel. With the same musical team and directed by Karoline Gruber, the cycle was continued with “Platée” and concluded with “Castor et Pollux” under opera general manager Axel Kober.
