Alexandria – Mohamed Amer:

Police forces in Alexandria arrested those in charge of the addiction treatment clinic in Al-Ajami neighborhood, in implementation of the arrest and summons order issued by the Public Prosecution.

Today, Thursday, the defendants are before the Dakhila Prosecution Office for investigation, against the backdrop of a fire in the sanatorium, which resulted in the death of 6 patients, the injury of another, and the survival of 39 others.

Counselor Mahmoud Zaghloul, head of the Dakhilah Prosecution Office, ordered the forensic doctor to be appointed to autopsy the bodies of the deceased patients, explain the cause of death and authorize their burial after that.

The decisions of the Public Prosecution included summoning officials of the Free Treatment Department at the Directorate of Health Affairs in Alexandria, to inquire about whether or not there are licenses for practicing treatment issued to the health facility, and the extent to which occupational safety and industrial security requirements are followed.

The prosecution issued a decision to expedite the report of the forensic experts, to find out the causes of the fire and determine its beginning and end, and to speed up the investigation’s investigations about the incident.

The investigations revealed that the clinic is not licensed and violates all medical, safety and occupational health requirements, and it conducts its work in violation of the law, and is located in a residential block in the Agami area, and there is no sign on it in the name of the clinic, and it is run by a recovering addiction.

Last night, the Dekheila Police Department received a report from the Emergency Police Department stating that a fire broke out in Villa No. 27, Street 13, off Al Hanafiya Street, in the Bitash district of Al-Ajami neighborhood.

The examination revealed that the villa consists of two floors and a “roof” and is used as a sanatorium for psychological treatment and addiction, and there are 45 people there, while the fire resulted in the death of 6 patients and the injury of another.

The Public Prosecution inspection of the villa revealed the death of the 6 patients as suffocation from smoke while they were inside the rooms designated for them in the clinic, and their failure to exit due to all doors being closed tightly.

A team of forensic investigation continues its efforts to uncover the circumstances of the fire and present its perpetrators to the prosecution if it was the result of an active act, but in the event that it occurred as a result of a short circuit, the workers and the owner of the sanatorium will be brought to the prosecution for negligence.

A report was issued on the incident in the Dekheila Police Department, and the presentation is being submitted to the Public Prosecution for investigation.
