New Covid-19 Cases Soar in Europe, Triggered by the Delta Variant

Infection Covid-19 rebounded in Europe after more than two months of sloping. This increase is due to variance Delta which spread in Russia and England.

The two countries experienced the highest increase in new cases in Europe. In addition, the spread is also the fastest with a record of more than 1,000 new cases per day.

AFP explained on Tuesday (29/6), Russia recorded 20,400 cases per day in the last seven days, this is an increase of 25 percent from last week. While the UK recorded 16,400 new cases, up 70 percent.

Russian and British authorities said the Delta variant originally found in India dominated the new cases.

In Europe as a whole, the average Covid-19 infection is 56,800 per day. This record is up 21 percent compared to last week.

On June 12-18, new cases had dropped to the lowest point in Europe since September 2020, which was 46 thousand per day.

Although new cases rose in Russia and the UK, several other European countries actually experienced a decline. For example, France got 1,820 new daily cases during the week, this is 23 percent down from the previous week.

Another note, Italy 714 new cases (down 35 percent) and Germany 650 new cases (down 31 percent).

The death toll in Europe due to Covid-19 is almost 1,100 people per day, up about 8 percent from the previous week.
