On September 11th “American Head” is the new album by Flaming Lips, with “My Religion is You” there is now the second single.

The band, founded in 1983 in Oklahoma City, combines alternative sounds and experimental pop on their new album “American Head”, which will be released on September 11, to create a captivating, gripping work that Wayne Coyne glides with his distinctive, clear voice. “Even though The Flaming Lips are from Oklahoma we never thought of ourselves as an AMERICAN band“Explains Wayne. “So for the first time in our musical life we began to think of ourselves as ‘AN AMERICAN BAND’…We started to think of classic American bands like The Grateful Dead and Parliament-Funkadelic and how maybe we could embrace this new vibe.”
“My Religion Is You”, the last track on the album, is about a conversation that Catholic-educated Wayne had with his mother at a young age. “Religion is there for people who don’t have a family that loves them. If their mom doesn’t love them or their dad doesn’t love them then they know that god loves them because humans can’t live without love“She explained to him. Wayne replied: “Then MY religion is you”.
The video immediately follows the scenes from “Flowers of Neptune 6” when Coyne “armed” with a gigantic flower pours his heart out in front of an inflamed backdrop that was already blazing in the previous video.
In the almost 40-year history of the band, the Americans have released dozens of albums, but “American Head” has long been a feeling for the now 7-member ensemble itself for a long time, rather than just a sound that was created during the album production . “We were, while creating it, trying to NOT hear it as sounds, but to feel it. Mother’s sacrifice, Father’s intensity, Brother’s insanity, Sister’s rebellion. I can’t quite put it into words.„
