San Francisco. Elon Musk’s company Neuralink, which wants to connect the brain to a computer with the help of implants, has raised fresh money from investors. The 280 million dollar (a good 254 million euro) round of financing was led by venture capitalist Founders Fund of technology investor Peter Thiel, Neuralink announced.

The company’s planned device is to be connected directly to the human brain with fine electrodes. Neuralink is initially researching medical applications. The first goal is for people who cannot move to operate a computer through their mind. Later it will be about restoring vision and speech with the help of technology – and tech billionaire Musk also speaks of a future in which people expand their skills by connecting to computers.

Neuralink received approval for human clinical trials in the United States earlier this year. Other companies and researchers are also working on such technologies.
